Last night was the first playoff game for Evan’s baseball team. Evan likes baseball but he is not really concerned about winning too much, he just likes the comrade.
At the game last night, things changed. The game went into extra innings to break the tie. The opposing team went to bat and scored one run. Evan’s team had to tie that to go to another inning or score 2 for the win. Evan was the second to bat in the batting order. The first batter struck out. Evan got up and got a strike with the first pitch, followed by 4 balls. At that point the coach came in to pitch (since the kid pitcher threw 4 balls).
Evan got another strike and was one pitch away from getting a hit or another out. His teammates as well as all is parents were yelling as we were all suddenly nervous/excited.
All of this pressure was new to Evan and I could see his chin starting to quiver and his eyes starting to water. On the last pitch he got ahold of it and hit a single. The next batter struck out making it 2 outs. The following batter got Evan to third (the fastest I have ever seen him run). The final batter had a full count, brought Evan home for his first ever run and to tie the game! Evan’s team won as the batter behind him scored the winning run.
While I never thought a kid’s game could get exciting, it really did. We are proud of Evan and his playing last night. He came home and enjoyed my homemade raspberry pie and some ice cream.
Great job E! The playoffs continue next week.
