New Favorite: Tom and Jerry

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

Evan has a new obsession: watching Tom and Jerry. Every night before he goes to be Evan requests a “big chocolate milk” or a “big water” and “a lot of Tom and Jerry”. I do not think I was ever a huge fan of Tom and Jerry – and did not have a lot of memories about the cartoon – but I can sum it up for everyone: cat chasing mouse – mouse outsmarting cat, sometimes they work together, everyone runs fast and has to skid out in order to stop. Who knows what interests him in this, but it is pretty funny that he is watching cartoons from the 60s-80s.

I love how his favorites change daily…we will keep you posted.

Evan Loves the Snow

Evan and his fortEvan loves the snow much like I do. He loves shoveling, walking in the snow, finding trucks, golf balls, and other assorted things that are uncovered when the snow melts, and making snow angels. Of course – he does not like to get snow on his bare hands and when he does, he cries (still does not get the idea that he can easily warm them) but he is generally a real trouper outside. I posted a new set of pictures taken at the babysitter’s house a few days ago.

Mommy’s Beautiful Hat

Posted by: jzelazny | 2 Comments

For years (probably 20) I have worn a ski hat – red with a big ball on the top and have loved it. Amy thought it was a bit much – especially since it had a hole in the middle (I called it the bullet hole), so I only wore it when using the snowblower on below zero days. The other day I put it on and as soon as Evan saw me where it, he looked at me and said very seriously “Mommy – your hat is beautiful!” That little sentence made my day because Amy had been making fun of it for years.

When we got home from our outing where I wore the hat – I put it on the table by the door (ok – probably the floor) and put Evan to bed. I went down to my office for a few minutes to quickly check email and the next thing I know Amy called me up to see the result of a horrible incident – Colby (who never has once shredded anything) – decided he liked my hat too and shredded the ball on top so that only 4 strands were left. I went from having a wonderful (beautiful even) hat to having a Charlie Brown Christmas tree like hat. Oh well. At least at the end of the day I can say Evan thought it was beautiful. Thanks Evan!

Evan and Santa

Evan and SantaWhile out running around picking out a new Christmas tree – Amy and I were discussing strategies on when/where to take Evan to see Santa…all stressful and doomed for failure (long lines, mall+Jen = disaster, etc). When we got to ABT in Glenview – to our pleasant surprise – Santa was there with no line, and free pictures (not to mention free chocolate chip cookies that were freshly baked).

Thanks ABT and thanks Santa!

Evan the Baker

Posted by: jzelazny | 1 Comment

100_1204Each weekend Evan looks forward to a few things: shopping (he recently told me big boys love to shop), spending time with us, and making Mama (Amy) pancakes. Every Saturday Evan and I get up and he makes Amy breakfast (even though she rumbles on about how it is not the same as her mother’s recipe).

Any opportunity Evan gets to measure out ingredients, mix them together, and then try out the newly finished product – he is there. He loves to dip his finger into anything (even just the flour mixture) and then will say something like “this is my favorite”. Last week, his babysitter sent him home with a plate of cookies and a memory stick from her camera. We took a look at the memory stick and saw how he made the cookies earlier that day. I thought that was pretty darn cute – and had to share. Check out the baker in action!

My Little Painter

Posted by: jzelazny | 2 Comments

E paintingOver the weekend I decided to finally paint the bedroom a new color. Evan got really excited about painting so I let him help me. I gave him a small roller and he did a great job. We went over not painting on any wood, the floor boards, or any of the outlets. He did a good job “going slow” and only going up and down with the roller. I look forward to having him help me more with some future painting projects!

Random Pictures From My Phone

Every once and awhile Evan likes to just sit down with my iPhone and flip through the photos. I noticed last night that there were a few cute recent ones that I should share. From left to right: E and Amy at his swimming class, Evan in the bath tub practicing floating and kicking, and Evan and our neighbors’ 20 year old cat Jessy.

Pumpkin Farm

Posted by: jzelazny | 2 Comments

GoebbertsJust like in years past – we made our way to the pumpkin farm once again. Evan had a blast looking at all the pumpkins, riding a pony, seeing all kinds of animals, and then watching a pig race. The number of animals they had was amazing (and a little sad). Evan saw zebras, kangaroos, pigs, flamingos, etc. The pigs were not as fast as his brother Colby, but they were super cute. Of course EVan really enjoyed just running around in the field with the other kids as well. You can see all the photos in the photos page.

I Love My Boots

Posted by: jzelazny | 1 Comment

My Boots Evan recently found his winter boots in his closet and has been wearing them all over the house, in the back yard, and anywhere he can. He puts them on himself and is very proud that he has his boots on. Yesterday we went for a walk with Colby and he decided he wanted to wear his boots – so here is one of the pictures I took with of him with his favorite new accessory.
