Evan and the Easter Bunny

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

Amy and I dropped Evan off on Saturday evening with our babysitter Denise so that we could go out to a friend’s house for a party. We left Evan there for the night and when we picked him up in the morning – he gave both Amy and I a picture of him and the Easter Bunny as well as a big photo of the occasion to hang up. (Thanks Denise – that was extremely thoughtful!)

At Christmas – Evan was scared to death of Santa and cried hysterically when we took him to see him. This time though – apparently he was super excited, gave him a high five, and was talking to him non-stop. Let’s hope this means this year’s picture with Santa will be more pleasant.

The Amazer!

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

Evan amazes me everyday. Yesterday on our way to shop we went past Corner Bakery where we usually eat at no more than once every three weeks – Evan looks out the car window and says “soup”. I was just blown away that he could make that reference when we really do not go there all too much.

On another note – Evan is now also really into Volcanos. While we were in the car yesterday in Wisconsin – we were near what appeared to be either a large factory of sorts or a nuclear plant (I could not see the actual stack because it was far off/behind trees) and Evan looked over and saw the big smoke stack and said “volcano” all excited. Again – I am ust blown away that he can make these references. Last night before he went to bed he and Amy watched a show on the planets. As soon as they showed Mercury (I believe) and the active volcanos on that TV – he once again got excited and started saying “volcano” over and over. He sure loves the volcanos…and keeping both of his moms in surprise with his knowledge!

PS – Happy birthday Amy!

Evan in the Kitchen

Taste Tester Evan has recently started volunteering as our official taste tester when we make any sort of cookies. After one failed attempt of making my favorite cookie (Christmas Candy Canes/ Spring Shamrock/Shillelagh Sticks) I decided to make them again and Evan did a great job with cleaning his beater.

Whenever he sees us in the kitchen baking something, he goes into the dining room, grabs a chair, and then moves it to the kitchen so he can stand on it next to us.

Evan blowing out the candle

Yesterday Evan had his second birthday party. At the party we had lots of good food (thanks to Portillo’s) and a lot of great friends and family. Grandma and Grandpa Z flew in for the big event and a lot of other friends drove in to spend time with Evan at his party. Evan got lots of great gifts and had a blast (especially eating his cake and off of other people’s plates). Thanks to everyone who came! New photos of the big day are available in the photos section.

Evan Loves His Wagon

Evan and his wagon Evan has a new “favorite” and that is his wagon. I had been thinking about getting one or at least putting a wagon on his birthday or Christmas wish list but last weekend one of our neighbors was having a garage sale and they had the very same wagon I was going to buy him for sale. I like the classic red metal Radio Flyer wagon and now Evan loves it. When we are outside – all he wants to do is sit in it or pull it around (I have been pulling him in it on our walks instead of using the stroller. When he is inside and tired, he will often cry and say “wagon, wagon” because he wants to go outside and play with it. This was the best $8.00 I have spent in a long time!

Evan’s Sister Triscuit

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

As most people know – Evan lost his first puppy on Wednesday (October 15th). Evan loved Triscuit a lot. He loved taking her for walks, feeding her his table food, playing with her tags, and saying hi and waving to her. Even though Evan could not quite get the name “Triscuit” out – he tried to get the “TR” out and loved when she was around. I am saddened by the fact that Evan will probably not remember Triscuit, but at least we have some good pictures of them together.

Evan at Lake Michigan

Evan and Amy at Lake Michigan While we were at Evan’s friend’s party last weekend, I decided to take some pictures of Evan and Amy by our wonderful Lake Michigan. Evan is a quick mover and it is hard to catch him in a good position and smiling, but we tried our best! The day was perfect and Evan enjoyed crawling on the big rocks next to the shoreline. Right along the lakeshore in Evanston, there is an awesome park called “Elliot Park” which has a great running/walking path, a great playground, and lots of green space where people come for picnics, parties, and just to get outside. We look forward to going back often next summer and perhaps a few more times this fall.

Evan’s Family Reunion 2008

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

We all had a great time at the family reunion this past year and now there are pictures to prove it. Needless to say – Evan was exhausted after 3 very busy days with his family (his maternal great grandmother’s side of the family). Check out the photos from the 40th annual family reunion…well of Evan at the reunion 😉 Evan did want to note he missed seeing his great grandparents when we were there.

Fun at the Family Reunion

Last weekend Amy, Evan, and I made the trek to New York for the 40th Evans’ Family Reunion. We got into town early Thursday morning, and left Sunday. During our time in New York – Evan had a blast. He road on a four wheeler (he had his own seat in the trailer that connects to the four wheeler). He also played in the sandbox, in his log cabin, and on his new slide that his grandpa and great grandfather built for him. He also had a blast with all of his cousins. Evan even entered the water balloon toss and did not come in last! Pictures to come soon!

Curious George: Evan’s New Favorite Show

Posted by: jzelazny | 2 Comments

Every once and awhile Evan will surprise me with a new word or an association. A few days ago, when we were watching Curious George in the morning, as soon as he saw George he said “George”. It was pretty darn cute. Now, at the beginning of each show he will say “George” and absolutely loves watching it. For reference, Amy’s new favorite show is Backyardigans, and mine is a renewed interest in 90210 😉
