Evan’s First Old Orchard Experience

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

Well, today we decided we would take Evan to his first North Shore shopping experience at Old Orchard. First up: Tiffany & Company. Amy did her browsing online before we left so that we could go in and out as quickly as possible, but Evan was not happy. His first Tiffany’s experience was not a pleasant one at all. My guess is he was upset because no one got him the silver rattle. There is still time! We tried a few other stores but he was not a happy camper so we left Old Orchard and drove home. I told Amy, at the very least we would have a good story about his first Tiffany’s experience to tell his fiance/wife (if he wants to get married).

Evan’s First Valentine

Happy Valentine’s Day from Evan! This picture of Evan is of him waiting for the candy he thought he should get…but he ended up settling on some formula instead. He wanted to get some valentines in the mail last weekend but he got busy doing some other things like picking out his birth announcment supplies. Thanks for all the cards and gifts (including his cute onsie he is wearing in the picture)!

Evan Smiling

We could not asked for a better first Super Bowl match up for Evan…the Bears v. The Colts. This morning when I was feeding him at 430am (his first feeding since he went to sleep) I told him he needed to rest up for the Super Bowl and he let out a big smile. (He could also have smiled because his Great Aunt Kathy is here to visit him too) Fortunately – he just smiled again and I was able to catch it with the camera. Go Bears!

we have a smiler!

A few days ago Evan started smiling when he was doing or seeing something he likes. Amy has been trying to get a picture of this, but has not been successful yet. Last night, Evan was up later than usual and so he was awake when Amy got home from ballet. Sure enough as soon as he saw her he got a big smile on his face and it was the cutest thing ever. Hopefully we can get a picture of his “all gum” smile.

A Great Weekend With Family

This past weekend, my grandmother, grandfather, mother, sister, and brother-in-law came for a visit so they could meet the newest family member, Evan. We all had a nice visit and Amy and I are very grateful for the time spent with our family. A big thanks to everyone for visiting and we hope to see you again real soon. Be sure and check out the new photos and videos that I posted!

first bottle.

After not seeing Evan all day yesterday (he was sleeping when I left in the morning and sleeping when I got home), I really wanted to spend time with him when he woke up for his night feeding. Amy and I were planning on waiting until he was three weeks old to introduce a bottle, but we gave it a shot last night. At first Evan just started screaming when I tried to put it in his mouth, but after I calmly explained that he needed it to grown and be strong like the Penn State football players, he took it and actually went through two bottles. We were so proud of him.

Smiles

What a joy to sit and watch our baby boy – which we do most of the day long. He is the cutest little thing, smiling and making faces all day long. I have to figure something real good is going on in his mind – a really great dream maybe – because his smiles happen often and they are adorable. We will try to catch a smile in a picture soon, although that is easier said than done.

Gaining Weight…It’s a Good Thing

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

We went to the doctors’ office this morning for Evan to have a weight check and color check. His bilirubin test yesterday came back lower (Day 1 – 5, Day 4 – 18, and Day 5 15.2) – so that is a plus…it is dropping. So the next thing to think about is his weight…which began at 6 pounds 15.2 ounces when he was born to 6 pounds 2 ounces on day 4 to 6 pounds 8 ounces on day 6 (today). Every one was so excited to see that he has gained 6 ounces in two days. He is eating like a “superstar” (as Josh would say) and sleeping just as good. Nights are not too bad, right now. We will see how things progress over the next few days, weeks, months.

evan’s first doctor’s appointment.

Our first appointment was scheduled for Friday, but we ended up in the office this afternoon. I noticed during Evan’s morning feeding that his eyes looked yellow (jaundice), which I had just read about in one of the 500 books we have on our dining room table. So Jen called the office and they wanted to see him and just make sure it was not a problem since he is so young. We went to our appointment at 2:30 and being the new parents we are we noticed halfway there that we forgot a diaper bag. So I was just hoping that Evan had and kept his diaper clean for the appointment. (Needless to say I came right home and fixed up the diaper bags and two extra to leave in each of our cars :)). Anyway…it is common for babies this age to be jaundice, but the nurse practitioner wanted to make sure it was not above the limit so we got back in the car to head out to the lab for blood work (another side-note…Evan was starving from not eating since a quick snack in the doctors office for 5 minutes and it was now way past three). We went to the lab and they took the blood and now we just wait.
If the numbers come back high – above 18 – (the NP thought it would probably be 10 or 12 – Evan was a 5 at the hospital on Day 1) then someone would come to the house with the treatment – a special blanket I believe. It was also recommended to feed him every two hours – so my life now revolves around feeding baby Evan – but I will do anything to make him better. Feel free to call or email if you have more questions – I have gone on enough.
