Firsts General Just Evan

evan’s first night home.

Posted by: jzelazny | 6 Comments

Was it the new room, the new noises, the abundance of food, or is this how you were in the hospital nursery at night and we did not know it? Amy and I put Evan to bed last night around 10pm in hopes that a quick diaper change and feed would be all he needed to sleep well. After laying in his big boy crib for five minutes, he started screaming. Amy picked him up and took him in the livingroom and got him to sleep for a few hours, but then the screaming started again. Amy and I tried everything, but it took my mother being here – with her patience and a warm burp cloth – to finally calm him down. I just hope that tonight goes better. 😉

Evan is Home!

Evan on his way homeAfter a long day of waiting to be discharged – Amy, Evan, and I made it home. I have uploaded a quick video taken with my camera. I will dust off the video camera tomorrow after we get some rest and start uploading some videos so we can start populating the videos section. I thought it would be appropriate to have his first video be of him sucking his thumb ;). He is adjusting to his new home very nicely. Pita is excited that Amy is home, Salsa loves the new friend, and Triscuit is still a little confused. Evan grabbed Triscuit’s nose at one point while she was smelling Evan at one point and it was very cute. No growling, no snapping…both are doing a lot of resting. To celebrate our first night home together, we ordered pizza from Lou Malnatis!

welcome evan!

Evan!

On Friday (December 15th), Amy awoke at 1210am because of her water breaking. We calmly (really) got everything together (Amy even took the time to water the Christmas tree) and off to the hospital we went. We called our immediate family (Susan included) and told them the exciting news. When she got there, the nurses put us into a labor and delivery room to start the fun. We put on U2’s “All That You Can’t Leave Behind” and settled in for what we thought would be a long night and day. Susan arrived around 3am with a basket full of goodies (Coca-Cola included) and some fun gifts for me (Jen). By 530am, the doctor was called. At 610am the doctor had Amy start pushing. At 648am Evan was born. He is wonderful and perfect, and more than we could have ever hoped for. I have uploaded the photos for everyone to check out in the photos section. Thanks for everyone’s love and support!

Firsts General Just Evan Pre-Birth

first birthing class.

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

Amy and I spent almost the entire day yesterday at our American Red Cross Birthing Class, part one of two. We did not think it could possibly be seven hours long, but it was…and I was not bored for one minute. This is a great class to take if you have the chance (and are expecting). We learned:

  • what to call the doctor for
  • when to call the doctor once the contractions begin
  • where to go within the hospital (and where to park)
  • what to expect once you get to the hospital
  • the advantages and disadvantages to epidurals
  • how to relax (no problem for me since I am always relaxed)
  • other miscellaneous information

The class was given by a nurse on staff at the hospital Amy will give birth at and it was great to see that she truly loved what she did and that she really enjoyed working at this particular hospital. We watched several actual births, both “regular” and C-sections and learned multiple coping techniques to get through the contractions. We have a second class to attend next week and I look forward to that as well. By going to the class, not only will we be certified via the Red Cross (helpful when/if Amy needs a C-section…this will allow me to be present), but we also will have all of our pre-admission paperwork taken care of so we will have one less thing to worry about.

kicking strong!

Jen and I were on our way home this evening on the train and I saw my first kick. Evan was kicking all afternoon…he must have enjoyed our pizza lunch or all the attention he received from Jen’s coworkers! It is pretty crazy to see your shirt move because someone is kicking you from the inside :).

looking pregnant, finally.

Amy is a thin person, always has been and probably always will be. I keep trying to get her to drink milkshakes, eat cheese, anything to pack in the calories, but overall she has not gained much weight. She still does ballet three days a week and walks for exercise….and her metabolism is amazing. Finally though, we had to go shopping for maternity clothes. She is barely fitting into the small (some small articles are still too big), but you can see a tummy now! 😉

lots of kicking!

It is week twenty-two now and finally I was able to also feel a kick. It is pretty wild, and I cannot imagine what Amy thinks when she knows there is kicking going on in side her!

baby shower in NY.

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

It is now week eighteen and we are off to NY for my family reunion and for a baby shower thrown by my mother. We received many wonderful gifts and saw some great friends we have not seen in a long time. (Not to mention Amy got to meet almost every teacher I ever had in school). Thanks mom.

we hear a heartbeat!

It is now week six and today at the doctor’s office, we heard the heartbeat for the first time. The baby’s heart was beating at 120bpm (same as mine at that point) ;).
