Funny Joke.

Posted by: jzelazny | 1 Comment

Evan is constantly telling us “funny” knock knock jokes.  Most are not that funny.  But in the car ride home from Denise’s on Thursday he told one that brought a smile to my face…

Knock knock

Who is there?

Love

Love who?

Love you!!

So I asked him where he heard that one, figuring a TV show or something.  He told me his brain taught him.  I love you Evan and your brain.

Kindergarten Day 3 = Good (Again)

Posted by: jzelazny | 2 Comments

I was pretty nervous this morning as I anxiously awaited to hear how Evan’s day went. The map and his trusty friend Haley made a world of difference and he walked out today very happy and excited to go back tomorrow. A big thanks to the neighbor. She offered to go with him for the next two weeks if needed. My fingers are crossed for tomorrow.

Second Day of Kindergarten = Tears

Posted by: jzelazny | 2 Comments

Well after a good first day – the second day was a little scary for Evan. He came home and told me he cried in the morning because he could not find his classroom and it made him nervous. Once he found his class the teacher gave him a hug and had him be her helper.

Just when I thought it was going to be ok – he told me last night I needed to call the teacher and let her know he was not going to be there today. I decided to make Evan a map (he loves maps) of his school and the path he needed to take to get to his classroom. I also went down the street to a neighbor’s house who has a girl in 2nd grade and asked her to walk him to his class in the morning. Evan was very excited about both plans and I hope it makes for a better/easier start today.

Evan in New York (Day 1)

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

This just in from my mother about Evan’s first day in New York with Grandma and Grandpa Z. We will re-unite with Evan next week!

Evan has had a busy day so far today. He woke up at 6 as Grandpa was making coffee, but he went back to bed and slept until 7:30. He was outside immediately in his jammies, calling turkeys and checking everything out. He and Grandpa then went outside after breakfast, but had to wear their bug hats because of all of the little gnats flying around as they were working. They then took a four wheeler ride up to Bill’s house to check things out there. Then he played in the “playground” and was quite proud of himself on how high he could swing this year. He also had to play in the sandbox, too. He came in for a while and did some “chores” for us – made his bed and vacuumed crumbs with the hand vacuum. He ate a good lunch and is now playing with the Fisher Price fire station. Next, he and Grandpa are going to go into town to get the tire for his tire swing and do some other errands.

Diane Hogan and her two grandsons are coming up at 5:30 to cook hotdogs and s’mores.

By the way, when we move to another house, he is going to come here to live!!!

We are all having a good time and thought you would like to see a couple pictures.

A Successful T-Ball Season

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

Evan loved t-ball and was a bit sad this past weekend meant his last t-ball game of the year. While he did not really know how to run the bases, throw a ball, or bit off a tee at the start of the year – by this past weekend he had three great hits (all went into the outfield), made some plays while he was in the outfield, and had a great time.

We are very proud of him for trying something new, listening to the coaches, and playing together with his other teammates. We look forward to it again next year! Thanks to the family members that made it out to see him play a game or two!

Human Fork

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

For the last year Evan continually differentiates kids and adults – but instead of calling us older people “adults” he calls us “humans”.

Example: Last night we had pizza for dinner. We did not get him a fork so after realizing he did not have a fork – he went into the drawer, picked out a fork, and proudly told us he decided to use a “human” fork instead of a kid fork.

While I generally correct him with any inaccurate differentiations – Amy and I find this pretty cute and so we do not say anything. So – next time you come over and Evan offers you a “human” something or other – rest assured it will not be something other than a non-kid item.

Pre-School Graduation

Posted by: jzelazny | 2 Comments

Hard to believe Evan has been in pre-school for two years and now has graduated. I will definitely miss walking with him to his school and seeing his little friends that I have watched grow/mature over the past two years. For the big graduation day – the kids performed 2 songs for the parents and then got their diplomas. Evan loved his teachers and will hopefully built some long lasting friendships.

Stuck Finger

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

Yesterday when I went to pick up Evan from the babysitter’s house I found her son sitting with Evan, some dish soap, and cold water trying to get Evan’s finger out of a plastic pipe. Apparently Evan was trying to put together a pipe maze of sorts for his marbles and got this stuck on his finger. When I got to him he was almost panicking but I got him to think about something else and then got his finger out of the pipe. Good times!
