Week 27 Appointment

Posted by: jzelazny | 1 Comment

We went for our 27 week appointment and ultrasound last week and everything went well.  Both babies are doing well and have good heart rates.  The boy (Will) is measuring 2 pounds 10 ounces – he is laying below my ribs kinda across my body. The girl (Cora) is measuring 2 pounds 4 ounces feet down on my right side.  No wonder I feel the most uncomfortable on my right side since I have a head and feet all pushed together.  So the ultrasound tech did not feel the differences in weight were that big enough to worry about at this point, although the doctor said if they continue to move away from each other in weight they may have to take them early because we do not want Cora to not get the nutrients she needs.  She is currently in the 45th percentile and Will is in the 65th percentile.  Hopefully WIll decides to share and both can stay inside several more weeks – any thoughts Aunt Jackie?

Crazy thing – I almost passed out during he ultrasound because I was on my back for so long – only about 15 minutes.  I just cannot get over how different this pregnancy is from when I carried Evan.  The tech said when you lay on your back the babies constrict your vessels – so the blood was not getting through as it should.  Crazy.

My weight was good – I gained about 2.4 pounds since my last appointment and my blood pressure was a little high but nothing to worry about.  No change from last time in my staying off my feet – thank goodness.  So I will continue to keep my feet up when I can and work three days a week.

Pictures:  Baby B – is Will of course all his shots are easy to see and perfect because he is on top.  Baby A is Cora – she has to deal with shadows and feet in her face – so pictures of her are not as easy to get.  PS. I am learning so if you click on the picture it will be small but click again and it should be bigger on the screen.

What I Feel Like.

Big.  Even though most people say I look small.

I have gained about 29ish pounds – which is right around where I was with Evan.  So I am only 25 weeks but I feel like I should be closer to 40 if I compare with my pregnancy with Evan.  The doctor seems fine with my weight gain – every one else thinks I should be bigger – but I gain what I gain.  Not like I am not eating.

Crazy Movement.

I sat my desk during the last period of the day and just resting my feet a little – my kids had been taking standardized tests all week so we were watching a video to relax and as I felt our little ones moving, I also notices something that was weird.  My stomach was also moving with the movement of the babies.  I do not remember ever seeing this with Evan – I believe he just was not big enough to make my body show movement.  Or I just do not remember.  So since that has happened I have noticed several times the movement when they are very active.  Kinda crazy, but I guess a given.

Week 25 Appointment

Babies are good – heart rates are within normal range and my glucose test results came back normal.  I was worried since I am carrying two babies this time and everything is so different.  Things seem to be going well although I do feel a lot of pressure – sometimes when the girl moves I think – please do not move so much – she feels so low – it makes me nervous.

Dr. Weber has suggested that I go part-time at work.  Carrying twins can put a lot more pressure on the body (cervix) and it can actually start to soften earlier than it would when carrying a singleton.  So starting next week I will be going into school three days and home two days.  Hopefully keeping me working a little longer – hopefully at least until 36 weeks.  I will also be going to the doctor every two weeks now – so my next appointment is 3/18.

Level 2 Ultrasound

At the level two ultrasound we had detailed measurements of both babies taken again – everything came back normal and at the correct size for their ages.  The boy weighed 1lb 3oz and the girl was 1lb 2oz.  The cardiologist also came in and took a close look at both hearts and the blood movement through the hearts (echocardiography) – it was amazing that they could see so much of our little ones already.  That doctor moved quickly though so we could not ask too many questions.  I was laying on the table for about 45 minutes for all of the measures and such – but the regular doctor came in at the end and said everything looked normal from what he could see at this point.  So more good news – makes us happy :).

The profile shot is the boy – great shot.  The scary picture is the girl – the circle on the right is her eyeball.  Because she is on the bottom it is hard to get a good shot of her because of shadows and such – at least that is what they tell us.

137 lb and blood pressure is 132/75 – everything is good – no worries.  No ultrasound this time because of all of the other appointments I have had lately.

Movement

Soon after the amniocentesis and Christmas I began to feel our little babies moving – a lot.  The girl moves all the time and the boy moves here and there (his heart rate is lower as well).  I took it as she is going to be active and energetic and he is going to be easy going just like his big brother Evan.  I did have some concerns of course since he was the one with the initial high reading in November – but the doctors keep confirming that thing seem normal.

Amniocentesis

Amniocentesis went well –  I was pretty concerned, but I am use to needles, so I just shut my eyes and waited for it to be over.  Jen actually asked where she could sit that she would see the least amount of the needle – funny.  It did not hurt too much, just uncomfortable when the doctor was trying to get in the right spot to take some of the fluid.

I got the results a few weeks later and all were normal with chromosome numbers and placement.  We get confirmation on a boy and a girl.  The girl is on my lower right side and the boy is on the left side higher up.  The girl is head-down and the boy is head-up.   I hope he flips and they both decide to exit normally – this is a concern I have had since I found out their positions.

Level 1 Ultrasound

Posted by: jzelazny | 1 Comment

11 weeks – Level 1 Ultrasound – According to the level 1 ultrasound (in-depth pictures and measurements of the babies) Baby A (soon to find out our little boy) has an increased nuclear fluid in between the skull and the skin of the neck – the genetic councelor recommended a few different test, one being an Amniocentesis.  This increased fluid level could mean a variety of things – Down’s Syndrome, some other genetic disorder, or nothing at all.  Many babies show an increase fluid level, but are born totally normal with no problems.  You just do not know.  Because there are twins we have twice the risk of everything.

The fluid level can also be an indicator of a problem with the cardiovascular system.  Doctors believe the fluid acts like the blood transporting materials around the baby at this young age.

We decide to wait until after Christmas to have the amniocentesis so I do not have to worry about the airport and flying right after my amniocentesis.

8 Week Appointment

Today was our first OB appintment with Dr. Weber and ultrasound (8 weeks) – I am at 121 lb and good blood pressure (do not remember exactly). The babies look good – if you can say that this early.
