First Extended Stay Without Parents

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

Growing up – I always enjoyed the week or two my sister and I spent with my grandparents and decided a long time ago that when I had kids – they would do the same thing. This year after our family reunion, Amy and I drove back to Chicago on Sunday and Evan stayed with his grandparents (and great grandparents) until the next Friday. They did all kinds of fun things, got to spend some one on one time with Aunt Julie, Uncle Dan, and Hunter, as well as enjoyed the “forest” where my parents live. Evan asked about us only twice and after my mother said “she is in Palatine” he was fine and ready to move onto the next thing.

A big thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Z, as well to Gaga and Papa for spending the week with him!

Evans’ Family Reunion 2009

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

Evan and Aunt Julie At the end of July we drove to New York for our annual Evans’ family reunion (Evan is named after this family name). Evan enjoyed playing with his cousins and being with his great grandparents and grandparents. We had a smaller than usual turn out at the reunion (around 40) – but it was still great seeing the people who made it and to see Evan play with and get to know his cousins. There are new photos available of the trip to New York – including some that were taken during his stay with Grandma and Grandpa Z after the reunion.

Evan’s First Penn State Game

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

Evan at his first PSU game We took Evan to the Penn State Blue and White game last weekend so he could experience a Penn State game while Joe Paterno was still coaching. I went to my first Penn State game at age 3 and never thought of going anywhere else to college after experiencing Penn State. I cannot say the same about Evan, but I know he had a good time. He got to meet some of our friends from Penn State (Amy, Casey, and our friend Emily’s son Colin.)

Evan on the slide Before the Penn State game, we flew into Buffalo so we could spend some time with Grandma and Grandpa Z. Evan enjoyed playing outside on the ATV, in the sandbox, in the fort that his great-grandfather (Papa) built for him, and walking around in gravel while experiencing hills (all our terrain here in Chicago is very flat). Inside – he enjoyed playing with Play Doh for the first time, sitting at the little table and chairs, and running around the house.

All and all it was a great trip and we look forward to more fun visits. Check out the photos section for some pictures from the trip!

Evan opening gifts We had a busy Christmas vacation. We flew into Philadelphia on Christmas Eve, spent Christmas with Amy’s parents and family, went to see Amy’s aunt and her kids, then went down to Virginia to see my sister and her family as well as my cousin Robert. We then drove back up to Philadelphia and flew home. Thanks to all our family members for making our trip a good one! You can check out the new photos in the photos section.

Evan and Sophie We all went to our friends’ lake house for the 4th of July and Evan ended up making a new friend with Doug and Kelly’s cute puppy Sophie. Evan chases Sophie, Sophie chases Evan. Check out the new photos (courtesy of Kelly) taken during the 4th of July weekend and Evan’s stay with Doug and Kelly a week ago. You will also note I switched the order of the photos so you view the latest at the top as expected. 😉 You are welcome Amy.

Trip to Disney World

We had the pleasure of going to Walt Disney World thanks to Aunt Kathy and Grandad Muller. A huge thank you to both of you. We all had a blast! We started out on Sunday night by having dinner with the Winnie the Pooh characters followed by some time in the Magic Kingdom where Evan road his first ride ever: It’s a Small World – and he absolutely loved it. He looked in awe and amazement while we road through the ride and could not get enough.

On Monday we went to Epcot and had dinner where Evan had his first taste of “Pirate Punch” which is raspberry lemonade. He loved it!

On Tuesday we were off to Disney Studios where we road the super cool new Toy Story ride and had dinner with Mickey Mouse, Pluto, Donald Duck, Goofy and Minnie Mouse.

On Wednesday we went back to the Magic Kingdom and Evan enjoyed Dumbo, the tea cups, and other exciting rides.

On Thursday we went to the Animal Kingdom where Evan enjoyed his first Safari!

On Friday we went back to the Magic Kingdom and wrapped up the rides we did not have a chance to go to the other days as well as Evan and Amy enjoyed the pool at the resort we stayed at (Sarasota Springs).

Overall it was a great vacation. Evan got sick the last day, but really was a trooper through it all! Check out the Disney photos!
