Evan’s Third Christmas Tree

Our tree and wreath

Our tree and wreath

Last weekend we went out to buy our Christmas tree and even though it was really cold, we found a good tree and a nice wreath to decorate our house. So far Evan has been pretty good about not taking ornaments off and playing with them but time will tell. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Last year about this time Evan could not even walk yet. It is amazing how time flies because it seems like he has been walking forever. Tomorrow Grandma and Grandpa Z are flying in to spend time with Evan during his birthday. Evan will be two on Tuesday!

Evan Giving Orders

King Evan

King Evan

Evan is definitely the king of the playground! I went and picked up his new brother (his new dog Colby) over the weekend and since then Colby has found a great spot to lay – on Evan’s unused twin bed. Evan was in his crib last night and Colby decided to sleep in his room with him. The next thing I hear is “Get down, get down”. Colby was on Evan’s unused bed and because Evan hears us often saying “get down” to him, so he decided to tell Colby to get down too. On another note, every morning Evan wakes up saying “Mommy, Mommy, where are you?” quite loudly. It is hilarious ๐Ÿ˜‰

Evan and Amy

Evan and Amy

Amy is famous for doing self portraits of her – with Evan…and here is the latest. I cannot even begin to estimate the number of self portraits we have of Amy and Evan (can it be a self portrait if there is more than you in the picture?) since Evan came home from the hospital. In this picture – check out Evan’s long eyelashes!

A New Skill

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

On Friday evening, while I was at my first recipe party, I got three phone calls from Jen. When I called her back she informed me that Evan had learned a new skill. He climbed out of his crib three times that night. I was not surprised since he is growing so tall so quickly, I was more concerned about the following bedtimes. Saturday night – no problem. We stayed up a little later and E went down without a fuss, but last night was not so easy. I put E down, again a little later than usual, but about 10 minutes later when I was in the shower I heard little feet running all over the house. We watched cartoons for a little while and I tried again, with no success. E was up until 9:15, when he finally began to fall asleep watching cartoons in our bed.
He actually is very good at the skill. He can climb out of the crib without making too much noise at all, he usually gets onto his truck that plays two nursery rhymes – really loud and then exits his room and shuts the door behind him.
Every day is a new day. Hopefully we can figure this one out quickly. ๐Ÿ™‚

Zipper With a Hug

We were out raking today and Evan joined us and helped a little – he put about ten leaves into the pile. Jen and E went inside and then I was called in to help because Jen could not get his jacket off because I zippered his jacket wrong. I used one zipper from the outside and one zipper from the inside – it has a fleece liner. Anyway…it was hard to get off – I tried to just pull it over the head with no success. Finally, I got the zipper moving and removed the jacket. Evan then said, “Yeah! You did it!” and I got a hug. So sweet. ๐Ÿ™‚

Evan, Do You Want a Dog?

Posted by: jzelazny | 0 Comments

While considering whether or not to get a dog, how the dog will feel with a young child in the house, how Evan will feel about another dog, etc – I sat down and asked some questions:
Jen: “Evan do you want a dog?”
Evan: “Nope”
Jen: Thinking about this response I thought maybe he does not understand what I am asking…
Jen: “Evan do you want a puppy?” (thinking he might call all dogs puppies)
Evan: “Nope”
Jen: Hmm..perhaps he is only saying “nope” to everything I say.
Jen: “Evan do you want ice cream?”
Evan: “OK”

Perhaps all kids do not want dogs…but regardless we are going to head up the greyhound rescue kennel on the 22nd to pick a new dog (hopefully one of Triscuit’s siblings that are up for adoption). I hope Evan will accept and love the dog when he gets home.
