Evan turned five this year and instead of doing our traditional big birthday parties at our house – we had Evan invite who he wanted (kids) and we had it at the place he takes swimming lessons. Evan wanted a pool party with a pirate cake (Pirates of the Caribbean). He had both and had a blast. Check out the photos from the fun kids party! A big thanks for all who came and to my mother who flew in for the event!

Evan Turns 4

Yesterday Evan turned four years old. He woke up, opened presents from family and friends, and then watched his favorite movie (Tom and Jerry Nutcracker). After Denise arrived, Evan and I went to the local donut shop to get donut holes for a birthday treat for his pre-school class. He went in and wanted a peppermint donut (which they had) and then we took it home for him to eat before his class.

After that, I went to work and he played with some of his new toys and enjoyed the morning. Unfortunately – he started complaining about not feeling well and by the time I took him to pre-school he looked wiped out. He was not interested in lunch (not even fire chips) but when he got to school he seems to light up a bit.

When I picked him up, he told me he wanted a nap and after telling him a ghost story (his favorite type of stories) he quickly fell asleep. When he woke up, he opened a few more presents (including the super flying airplane I bought him) but was not very excited with anything.

For dinner – we made plans to take him to Portillos and then to Chuck E Cheese with his friend Caden and his dad. He did not even eat his french fries let alone his hot dog, and by the time we got to Chuck E Cheese – he looked wiped out again. After 30 minutes or so of playing games, we sat down to have cup cakes, but he instead of wanting a cup cake, wanted to go home. At that point we knew he was not feeling well.

Turns out he had a slight fever, so after some medicine, he went to bed without arguing. No one likes to be sick – especially on his birthday, but he woke up this morning feeling much better and super excited to play with all the new toys he got.

Thanks to Uncle Mike (and family) and the Reid family for calling and singing Happy Birthday!

Evan’s 4th Birthday Party!

img_2578Evan and all his friends had quite an exciting birthday party last week. We had the Traveling World of Reptiles come and give a fun filled hour + presentation on reptiles. We had a 150lb python, a tortoise, crocodile, lizards, etc in our home as Dave talked to everyone about the reptile’s natural habitats, the dangers of having them as pets, and how to interact with them.

Overall – I think everyone of all ages enjoyed the show and were pleasantly surprised how much fun it was. After the show, we all enjoyed Portillos and Costo cake.

Here are some pictures from the big event. A big thanks to all those that came out for the celebration.

Happy Third Birthday Evan!

Happy Birthday Evan! It is hard to believe Evan is now 3! I actually have memories from when I am 3 so I am excited that soon Evan will start building his memory for events we can talk about in the future. Today Amy got him out of bed (always a treat for him), he had a brownie from Mrs. Fields for breakfast (thanks Rosemary!) and then got to hang out with Josh and Phil Sr. while they hooked up the new fridge to our water line.

Later today we are going to take him to dinner at Chuck E Cheese (he called it “Yucky Cheese” this morning), have some cup cakes, and then end the day with some Garfield cartoons in bed.

Happy birthday!

Evan’s 3rd Birthday Party

Evan's cakeOn December 5th, Evan had his first “kid” birthday party. We rented one of the gyms in our local park district for an hour and then had cake, pizza, and opened presents. Aunt Julie and Grandma Z flew in for the event and we had lots of friends attend to make it a great party – even with the super smelly, un-serve-able vegetables (see Amy – that is what you get for trying to be healthy!)

Evan enjoyed running around chasing his friends, playing with the toys, and then eating cake and pizza. A big thanks to Aunt Julie, Grandma, Doug, Kelly, and Lori Ann for all the help.

Please note – Evan took some of the photos in the photo collection so if they are strange – you can talk to him!

Evan at the Choo Choo Happy Birthday Evan! Evan spent his birthday with Grandma and Grandpa Z in the morning until we dropped them off at O’Hare. From there, I took Evan to the Choo Choo where Evan enjoyed a hot dog, some fries, a pickle, a cupcake, and then the whistle from on top of the cupcake. After that, he took a nap and then we watched Curious George (the movie) together. When Amy came home, she spent the evening with him and then he went to bed in his new comfy pajamas that Rosemary got him for his birthday.

Yesterday Evan had his second birthday party. At the party we had lots of good food (thanks to Portillo’s) and a lot of great friends and family. Grandma and Grandpa Z flew in for the big event and a lot of other friends drove in to spend time with Evan at his party. Evan got lots of great gifts and had a blast (especially eating his cake and off of other people’s plates). Thanks to everyone who came! New photos of the big day are available in the photos section.

Evan in the Bounce House

On Saturday Evan went to his friend Emma’s 3rd birthday party. They had a big bounce house and Evan spent quite a bit of time in there with his friends jumping and bouncing. Evan also enjoyed spending time playing with Emma’s toys, playing in Emma’s play house, and eating the good food that they served. Check out the photos to see more of Evan at Emma’s birthday party.

Evan at Owen’s Party

Here is a short video taken at Evan’s friend Owen’s first birthday. While at the party, another little boy (Max) decided to start pushing around a wagon. As soon as Evan saw this – he ran over and sat in the wagon. Fortunately, Max’s mom caught this on video. Way to see the opportunity Evan – aunt Julie would be proud! (Julie used to make me pull her around in the wagon all the time)

Christmas outfit

Evan got a really cool sled for his birthday and finally got a chance to use it in his front yard this week. He liked the snow, the sled, and the snowball Mommy made for him, but he had a hard time picking it up since his mittens do not have a separate compartment for his thumb. Next year we will build a cool snowman together. Check out the other photos of Evan in the snow.
